El 3/DIC/2012 será la conferencia de la UIT en Dubai, y comienza a aumentar el debate en torno a al futuro de internet por diversos proyectos sobre su regulación, que en defintiva regularán la libertad de expresión. La UIT niega esto, pero diversas iniciativas como por ejemplo en Argentina, Reino Unido y Rusia, aumentan seriamente las sospechas. Google tomó la delantera con su propia iniciativa en favor de colectar voluntades para mantener una internet libre, la cual es rechazada por la UIT.

La carrera planteada con el inglés Robert Scott, no solo era por llegar a destino, sino también por retornar vivos. Scott llegó 35 días después, y pereció en el retorno. Pero también la expedición dejó la enseñanza de la planificación: mientras que Amundsen empleó trineos y perros que luego fue sacrificando para alimentar a los otros perros y al propio equipo de expedicionarios, Scott empleó ponys y equipo más pesado, sumado también al error en la planificación de las postas de reabastecimiento de víveres que Amundsen fue dejando en su camino al Polo, para aprovecharlas en el retorno.

En septiembre pasado lo hizo en Canadá, donde maneja un pronóstico de 900.000 suscriptores, y de tal fuerte crecimiento depende la llegada a otros países, tal como se informó a los inversores. En el caso del Reino Unido, Netflix se verá con un competidor directo: LoveFilm (que en ENE2011 fue adquirido por Amazon), y un jugador alternativo como iPlayer de la BBC. Para América Latina aún no se sabe con qué prestadores locales cerrará acuerdos, y tampoco trascendió a qué precio saldrá, considerando que la membresía mensual es de US$7.99 en EEUU. La pregunta del millón está en la disponibilidad de los derechos para cada país.
Netflix eyeing Latin America and Britain for next international launches. Netflix says it will start offering its Web video service in 43 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean later this year. The company didn’t announce a launch date for the move or pricing for the service, which goes for $7.99 a month in the U.S. Last September Netflix made its first move outside the U.S. by opening up in Canada, and expected to have as many as 900,000 subscribers. UK could pose a particular challenge, as it's the first country in which Netflix will face a direct competitor: LoveFilm (which in January was acquired by Amazon.com). And other player too: iPlayer service of BBC. The prize question: the copyright rules by each country?
Twitter está haciendo una nueva recaudación de fondos, y por ella el precio de la compañía ascendió a US$7.000 millones. El detalle es que aún no cotiza en bolsa y no tiene apuro para ello, lo que contrasta con empresas como Groupon Inc. y Zynga Inc. El dato está en que si el financiamiento sigue proviniendo de inversores particulares, significa que el negocio no está maduro como el de sus competidores.
Even as Internet companies such as Zynga Inc. and Groupon Inc. file to go public, Twitter Inc. is taking a different route: it's continuing to tap private investors. The move is set to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in a round valuing Twitter as high as US$7 billion. That Twitter is continuing to raise money privately may indicate that its business is less mature than some of its peers.
